Car-Re-registration

CAR – RE-REGISTRATION for vehicles with
EU - Number plate
Required documents for re-registration:

a) Re-registration without change of holder:

• Original car Documents
• Original EU certificate of conformity (also called "CoC")
• Copy of your ID / Passport
• Copy of your (valid) NIE number (or Residencia)
• Registration with the (Spanish) Tax Office (Hacienda)
• Residence certificate of your municipality or copy of the Escritura or the rental contract or IBI, water or electricity bill

b) Re-registration with change of holder:

• Original car documents

• Original EU certificate of conformity (also called "CoC")
• Copy of the ID / Passport card from the seller
• Purchase contract (in Spanish) or invoice with VAT
• Copy of the ID / Passport from the buyer
• Copy of the Buyer's NIE number (or Residencia)
• Registration at the tax office (Hacienda)
• Residence certificate of your municipality (Empadronamiento) or copy of the Escritura or the rental contract (from the buyer)

Important!

All vehicles must be older than 6 months and have more than 7,000 km.
Otherwise, an additional 21% VAT will be charged!

c) Re-registration as moving goods:

In the event of a change of residence in Spain, you can be exempted from the registration tax (Impuesto de matriculacion) in which the vehicle is declared as moving goods.

Prerequisites for this are:

• The vehicle must have been registered in your name for at least 6 months.

• They must have been registered in the respective municipality for at least 1 year.
• You must unsubscribe from your municipality in UK. (Certificate of de-registration with proof that you have lived in the municipality for more than 1 year)
• You must register in Spain as a resident and in your municipality.
• The car re-registration must be made within 60 days after registration in Spain (Residencia)!
• Original invoice (with VAT) or sales contract.

CAR – RE-REGISTRATION for vehicles with Spanish registration plates (Transferencia):

• Original car papers (Ficha tecnica and permiso de circulacion)

• Proof of paid vehicle tax (receipt or bank receipt)
• Copy of the ID / Passport card from the seller (DNI of Spaniards)
• Copy of the seller's NIE number (DNI of Spaniards)
• Purchase agreement (in Spanish)
• Copy of the ID / Passport from the buyer
• Copy of the NIE number from the buyer
• Registration at the tax office (Hacienda)
• Residencia or residence certificate from the town hall (Empadronamiento) or copy of the Escritura or Spanish rental contract
