Driver's license rewriting   (only EU and Switzerland!)

What documents do I need for a rewrite?
 (Canje del carnet) 

• Copy of the ID card

• Copy of Residencia
• Copy of the residence certificate (Empadronamiento).
• Copy of the driver's license (both sides).
• 2 passport pictures (32 x 26 mm, for Spanish driving licence).
• Medical certificate.

Can I keep my driver's license?

No. The driver's license is confiscated and you get a (temporary) Spanish driving licence.

How long does a paradescription take?

That is hard to say. But expect about 4 - 6 months or more. Your driving licence will only be checked for validity in the country of issue.
About 8 weeks after your driver's license has been confiscated, you will receive a provisional driver's license
However, this only applies to Spain, not abroad!

How long is my Spanish driving licence valid?
(For cars and motorcycles)

• up to 65 years: 10 years
• from 65 years: 5 years

"Spanish Points - System".

You get a point – credit in Spain.

• Beginner driver (less than 3 years of practice): 8 points
• Driver with more than 3 years of driving practice: 12 points

(maximum 15 points are possible)

The legal Spanish period of validity for driving licencesis:

Group I:
Driving licence categories BTP, C1, C1+E, C, C+E, D1, D1+E, D, D+E (lorries and buses).

Age of the driver's license holder:	Validity of the driving licence:
up to 65 years	5 years
from 65 years	3 years

Group II:
all other categories of driving licence (Cars and motorcycles)

Age of the driver's license holder:	Validity of the driving licence:
up to 65 years	10 years
from 65 jaar	5 years
